How to design it
- 1
Show the screen
Let people see what the assistant sees, with a short caption for what it is doing now.
- 2
List the steps
Show which steps are done, which is next and which are left.
- 3
Keep Pause and Take over close
One tap stops the assistant. Another lets the person do the next part themselves.
- 4
Ask before sensitive steps
Paying, sending or signing in needs a clear yes from the person first.
Do and avoid
Do
- Say what the assistant is about to click, in plain words.
- Keep Pause and Take over in the same place.
- Name the amount and the card before any payment.
- Show clearly who is in control right now.
Avoid
- Do not hide the screen and report only at the end.
- Do not keep going after the person pauses.
- Do not enter passwords or card details without asking.
- Do not bury the question in a long list of steps.
Why it works
Watching someone else use your computer feels uneasy when you cannot see or stop them. A visible screen and an easy way to step in let people relax, and a question before money or private details keeps them in charge of what matters.
